ISIS was initially founded on July 4, 2006 in Fez by a group of University researchers and feminist leaders. Its Founding Director, Professor Fatima Sadiqi, is also the Founding Director of the Center for Studies and Research and the graduate Unit 'Gender Studies', both considered to be the first of their kind in Fez and the region.
